Roughly fifty automobiles have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a statement.
Police say they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.
The liquid had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Officers then discovered multiple other marked cars and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the public display of Nazi symbols.
Police state initial examinations suggest the fluid was likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no indication as to its source; authorities are not yet informed of any injuries in relation with the incident," they commented.
Local authorities announced they were trying "to unravel the case" and have asked to the residents for information.
A senior official commented the incident rendered him stunned and needed to be resolved quickly.
"This act strikes at the core of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he stated on social media, recalling the murder of nine people by a assailant focusing on individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
